First Dance Song Trends in 2014

First Dance Song Trends in 2014

The First Dance is a very important moment for all couples. It is really a great time to reflect on the day so far and just spend a moment lost in your partner’s eyes. And picking the music for your First Dance is not an easy thing to do! The world is full of amazing songs that would suit this situation.

A lot of people often go with a song that really means something to them as a couple. Perhaps there was a special song you two danced to when you were dating or you even have a ‘theme song’ for each other. Sometimes you just want to pick something that has the right lyrics or melody to suit your wedding ceremony.

Just like with other wedding things, First Dance song trends also tend to change over the years. New songs come along and different trends influence the choices couples make. So if you want to pick something sweet and trendy for your wedding you should check out these First Dance trends of 2014.

New Favorites

There have been plenty of great new songs out in the past few years. And many experienced Hudson Valley DJs have noticed the following songs being requested more and more this year:

Bruno Mars – Marry You

Take That – Greatest Day

Elbow – One Day Like This

Jason Mraz – I’m Yours

The following songs all have really sweet lyrics and they can be modified to be just the right kind of melody for a First Dance. A modern song can be a great First Dance for elegant, modern weddings and it often suits a relaxed atmosphere very well.

Old Classics
Naturally, there are also plenty of older songs that are still holding onto their position as the most selected First Dance music. Older pop ballads are really popular and not only among the older couples either. Lots of evergreen love songs are something that people from all generations can really relate to.

UB40 – (I can’t help) Falling in Love with You

Extreme – More Than Words

Van Morrison – Someone Like You

The Pretenders – Loving You Is All I Know

Swing Is Back

2014 is also a year when vintage is a big thing when it comes to weddings. And there is plenty of swing music available for your First Dance. Hudson Valley wedding DJs have also been noticing a lot of couples looking for songs that fit weddings that take inspiration from the Great Gatsby and Downton Abbey. Here are some great songs to keep in mind:

Ayer/Grey – If You Were the Only Girl in the World

Irving Berlin – What’ll I Do

Cole Porter – You’re the Top

Etta James – At Last

These are really great choices for a vintage themed wedding. There are also plenty of classic songs from the king of swing, Frank Sinatra, that you could keep in mind.

Hopefully the above list gives you some inspiration for a trendy First Dance song for your wedding. You can contact us in order to discuss how to best plan a Hudson Valley wedding first dance. We also offer a FREE e-book on our website so be sure to sign up with the service.
